MCPSS middle schools offer new leadership course

Mobile County Public Schools has become the first school system in the state of Alabama to offer an exciting new leadership program for middle school students: the Leadership Officer Training Course (LOTC).

This elective program is being offered at seven MCPSS middle schools:

  • Calloway-Smith

  • Hankins

  • Lott

  • Pillans

  • Semmes

  • Booker T. Washington

  • Williamson Middle Grades Preparatory Academy

The LOTC program will focus on character development, introducing JROTC activities such as drill and ceremonies, as well as a host of other skills that will enhance students' middle school experience, including VEX robotics, drone technology and physical fitness.

"The course includes an embedded credit for physical education and will provide several opportunities for students to compete in these activities against their counterparts at the other programs," said LTC (Ret.) Robert F. Barrow, MCPSS Director of Army Instruction.
